Mister B.D. has many good points. Um... well, he has many points. He does make sense though - what use is Squidman to them if he's maimed/dead? Squidman owes them a debt, and it won't get repaid if Squidman isn't in a position to repay it. Getting rid of Squidman himself would be a last resort - the equivalent of writing-off a bad debt! Sure, they could rough him up a bit (ABH), and it might come to that, but more serious physical harm (GBH) would be counter-productive.
