A "shipper" (short for "relationshipper") is a particularly scary type of obsessive fan. They like to pair-off characters (not always rarely official canon pairings) and they get very protective of their "One True Paring".

For a good example, just visit any Harry Potter fandom forum and suggest that Harry and Ginny (official canon pairing) make a cute couple, then sit back and watch the rabid fangirls and boys fight over their preferred pairings (Harry/Hermione, Harry/Ron, Harry/Draco and so on). You will need flame retardant clothing.
